Research

1. Phylogeography of wood-inhabiting basidiomycetes
Wood-inhabiting fungi are efficiently distributed with wind-borne spores over great distances. All Nordic wood-fungi are immigrants after the Holocene glaciation and are supposed to have followed the expanding forest vegetation arriving from East and South. Species complexes are well suited for the study of speciation and migration patterns. Crossing tests and phylogenetic studies based on ITS sequences are valuable for revealing relationships between different biological species in a complex, as well as the degree of genetical divergence caused by geographical isolation.

2. Moulds and rotting fungi in buildings - biodiversity and identification
The principal aims with this doctorand project are: 1) To investigate the diversity of species in buildings, based on reliable identifications, 2) To prepare reference collections, as dried herbarium specimens, living cultures, and obtained ITS sequences (nuclear rDNA), 3) To prepare pedagogical tools for the practical identification of species occurring in moist-damaged buildings.

Current projects

1. Phylogeography of wood-inhabiting basidiomycetes (Fylogeografi hos vebeboende basidsvampar)
2. Moulds and rotting fungi in buildings - biodiversity and identification (Mögel och röta i byggnader - biodiversitet och identifikation)
